A REUNION
There is proof that friendships forged at ” the villas ” reach to all corners of the planet.
Recently there was a reunion of two of our best guests, Ian ( Old Bull / Young Bull ) and Matt ( Chaka Nui ) in Singapore. Ian has been to the villas in Margarita Island and here in the DR about 8 times. He is from London and working on a temporary assignment to survey oil tankers in Singapore. Matt is from Louisiana and is a former Army Ranger ( he became very “close’ to General Noriega in Panama). He has been living in and working in Singapore for a few years now building large oil drilling platforms. Matt held the “record” for the villas for 14 visits , and eventually married one of the Venezuelan girls. Please do not ask me how it turned out. Caveat emptor.
But I told them both last week that no attractive woman in Singapore will be safe with the two of them there at the same time. LOL
THINKING OF RECORDS SET AT THE VILLAS
This makes me think ( again) that we need to start a blog on our web site of “records held at the villas”.
For example. Most number of throws in 24 hours . Twelve (12) by Bomba in 2012. NOTE the record was held by Nuclear Roy for 4 years after he did 9 throws in 2007. Most number of Pardee Hours with (girls) at one time. Six (6) , held by Winnie the Pooh . But honorable mention to Bomba for 5 at one time. Most number of visits to the villas is 22. Held by Rollie the Rocket ( former tennis professional). Honorable mention goes to Cliff ( Captain Cleet ) for 20 visits. The most number of condoms used in one visit to the villas is 128. Record held by Bomba 2013. Most number of times a guest has fallen in love at the villas is 42. The number of days in Woodeyes last 3 visits. The most consecutive number of nights at the Cabarete beach clubs is 9. Held by Doc Holiday ( Doctor Joe) . Established in 2012. The most number of times that a guest has found a bride and married at the villas is 2. Record held by Billy ( El Perro). Most number of friends brought to
the villa at one time by a guest. Eleven (11) for a CANADA WEEK celebration in 2007. Held by Rogito ( Don Juan). Just a few of the records of note…….
SOME OTHER NEWS
One of the biggest news stories this month is the pending purchase of our “new” 8 bedroom Oceanside villa. When the sale is finalized you will be the first to know. Until the deal is finally done we are very comfortable in our MARBELLA Villa. It is not far from our BEACHCOMBER Villa that was sold. But , for those guests that opine for our Beachcomber Villa, our present 5 bedroom MARBELLA Villa ( same number of bedrooms as the Beachcomber) is more ample and more luxurious. And it is ALSO located on the ocean. And it will, along with our PIRATES GROTTO Villa will do nicely until the sale is finalized and we move into our 8 bedroom villa. With these 2 villas we have 9 bedrooms combined . The same as our Margarita Island villas. The perfect size for what we want to offer our guests. We have learned that hotels are NOT acceptable for our guests, and that bigger is not always better. One of our guests ( President of a FORTUNE 500 corporation, but you
would never guess it when he was at the villas), said it best: ” I travel all year for my business , and I stay in hotels. The LAST place that I want to stay when I am on vacation is in a hotel. ” We agree, and that is why we are and always have been in private, oceanfront, luxury villas.
HALLOWEEN
The preparations have already begun for Halloween Week ( FANTASY FEST ). In years past we have limited the guest list to only 8 ( along with 20 or so chicas). But this year we have decided to accept up to 12 guests and up to 25 chicas. The accommodations have been arranged already and many of the reservations have been received along with deposits ( already on board are Cheetos, Mimin, Pica, Bomba, Tatter, CompWiz, Skipper, Yalen, and Crazzed ).
And this is only the beginning of August. Twelve reservations with deposits leaves only 3 spaces still available. Many guests like to wait until “the last minute” ( within 30 days of arrival) to reserve their vacation. But there are 3 weeks in the year that waiting until the last minute will not guarantee any reservation. Those weeks are Halloween Week, Christmas / New Years Week, and Valentines Week.
SPECIAL THANKS
A special thanks goes out to our most recent guests (all newbees) . Peter ( the Jacques Cousteau of Germany), John ( Galindo ), Water Bear ( the Sea Otter), Lord of the Rings, Mango ( a body double for musician Huey Lewis and the News), Tom and Tom. (here for “TOM” Week when all men at the villa were named TOM), 007 ( known for his” soft touch” with a putter), and El Tigre (the Tiger but not of Corn Flakes fame).
FISHING
We have lots of guests that like to fish. And we now use 4 different boats to charter for deep sea fishing. Usually the fishing is slow in the summer months.
But yesterday one of the boats that we charter, the 48 ft Bertram ANGELINA, caught a 350 lb blue marlin. Probably a male since the females are usually much larger ( Marine Biology 101). Congrats to the captain, crew, and the fisherman that caught it. Well done.
And speaking of fishing. I had lunch last week with the owner of MARLIN CHASER. He has been fishing that boat ( he owns two) out of Punta Cana for the last year or so since we last chartered it in Rio San Juan. But he told me that he is planning to bring that boat to fish out of Sosua this winter. I told him that we could probably guarantee him at least one charter per week from the villas.
OTHER NEWS
In other news, we have contracted with an outside firm (USA) to help us with the design upgrade and SEO of our web site. And you should be seeing some changes soon. We always welcome Emails with input from our guests ( past, present, and future). We have always been told that we “undersell”. Most often heard quote is ” I would have been here long ago if I only knew that you where here and had all of this to offer”. I guess that I must accept the blame for “underselling”. And for the suggestion that our web site does not properly portray all that we have to offer. I guess the reason is that I have always felt contempt for other resorts that design “slick’ web sites that “oversell” what they actually have to offer. So CompWiz and I have tried to present a realistic image of our resort. And , among all of the others, we have wanted to be known as the “real deal”. Nevertheless, we have heard many suggestions from our guests about improving our web site.
Now we are doing something about it. It will be more interactive and updated frequently with salient and entertaining news and photos.
NO MORE
So from now on you will not hear the advice of one of our repeat guests, Harvey, who took my cell phone away from me in mid conversation when we were sitting at the bar in the villa. I was discussing with a prospective guest who was asking some questions and was undecided whether to come or not. Harvey took the phone from me and said to the prospective guest on the line, ” Listen. The place is small , no one knows about it, and all of the girls here are ugly. So don’t come. It will leave more for us here that already know about it.” Harvey “took out” or was engaged to Corina a few months and visits later. I think it was number 23 of the girls either engaged or married to guests from the villas. That number is now 58. Go figure. Crazy parties, fun, and also romance. What a combination.
REFLECTIVE MORNING
I am sitting here out in the “Bohio” next to the pool early in the morning ( 6 AM ). Enjoying my first cup of strong latin coffee and listening to the waves crashing onto the rocks nearby. I love these reflective mornings. It is a great way to start the day.
We hope that you will come down soon and share with us all of the magic that is this place…….
Remember the words of a great thinker and friend who once told me, “Stay horney my friend.”
