I always fly United. Fares vary from summer to winter...
Flight from Houston to Newark to Puerto Plata is:
Summer = $1,100
Winter = $850

I generally book my flights with earned miles...30-35k + $150

I have to stay a night in Newark (the POP flight is at 8:00 am) so there is a cost for hotel...of course I use my travel points so cost is $0

I know there are better airfare rates with other carriers...

I hope this gives you a better idea...

And as always Thumper,
I suspect you have dreamed about visiting since 2012. I could be wrong, but it seems like you need to hop the fence and book a visit sometime soon brother...

Thank you, i look forward to hearing about ur trip. The boards seem to have slowed a bit and when the old website was shut down i was afraid i had lost my chance. Luckily i stumbled upon the new website while browsing for a similar vacation option. I will say this, IGGW is the only one i have found that has an open forum where past guests share their experiences with us Noobs.

Indeed! I've looked at other resorts and they all seem too slick. I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like you would get the personal attention and be treated like a king like IGGW :D

Only 16 more days 8)

THUMPER

I will be visiting paradise 8/1-8/9. I live close to Newark EWR so that's the most convenient for me. United flies out of there so that's what I take, non-stop, less then 4 hours. The prices change almost daily. I started looking a few months ago and the price was over $800. I kept watching and when it hit $601, I booked the flight. Just checked now and its $567.

I like to do some fishing when I am there. The boat I chartered said the best time for marlin was July and August. July is a busy month for me, so I planned on early August. The villa was very flexible with the dates, so I sent in my deposit with the approximate dates. When the airline fares dropped to where I felt it was reasonable, I booked and sent them my airline itinerary. So in about 37 days I'm off to paradise.

I would suggest you do the same. Pick your window and send in your deposit. Then when you book your flight, confirm the dates with the villa.

Just a word of caution. When I started checking on sites like cheep air or priceline, there were some cheaper fairs. But when you looked closely at them they left at like 3 in the morning, had layovers of lots of hours, or changed the airport you choose. That's one thing you don't want is to have to leave the villa at 1 am, spend hours sitting in some remote airport or two, driving hours to get to or from the airport, when you could be spending that time with the young ladies. United leaves EWR at 8:39 and arrives at POP at 12:29. So there is still time to partee or two and enjoy the food on day one.

Congratulations Thumper!

My only regret is we won't be visiting paradise at the same time!
Yes - there are cheaper flights, but is the extra $100 really worth multiple stops and layovers? On My July trip, I leave Houston at 6:00 am on the 11th (really wish I didn't make that decision :? ). But, I arrive in Newark at 11:00 am with plenty of time to relax for my flight to POP the next morning...

Just a few logistics...
- You will need to fill out a form to enter the Dominican Republic...Last January I used Surf Villa for the address...
- There is a $10 tourism fee as you exit customs...
- I packed too many clothes on my last visit...the housekeeper will wash your clothes daily...

Feel free to send me any questions that you might have on the board or PM...
